Old Growth, New Growth

"Old Growth, New Growth"
Vintage and newer wooden kitchen utensils, arranged on an oak barrel stave.

Would be great for a home kitchen or restaurant decor.
This is a wall hung piece.

Games

Over the last year, I have been 'playing' with several different found objects to create my assemblage work. I have a rather large collection of game pieces and rulers, dice, dominoes, jacks and other small plastic toys and I wanted to incorporate them into my art.

When people see these assemblages, with these bits of game memorabilia randomly attached onto wooden game boards, they will often comment of the fond childhood memories that the finished piece will often evoke.

Here are 4 game assemblages I have made over the past year. I'm sure if you look closely, they will 'stir up' some childhood memories of your own.  Enjoy!

A Few New Pieces

Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted new work, but I have been busy making art. I have lots of new work, just haven’t had a chance to post the new work.  Over the next few weeks, I will try to catch up with everything I’ve done over the past few months.

"Baby Moon"
A vintage VW hubcap is the focal point for this piece. A 24"x24" wooden frame embellished with lots of interesting bits, bling and other pieces of interest.

"On The Hook"
A wooden fish covered in handmade red tissues, contained in a box lid. Ready to hang. The big glass eye on the fish is from a taxidermy deer head that someone gave me.

"Reflections"
A wooden heart framed mirror, covered in a 1973 edition of the Press Democrat, and embellished with rusty nails, screws and other hardware.  By the way, the rusty nails, screws and other hardware have been collected over the years by me, on long walks or short walks, in the US and abroad.  I just can't resist picking them up.

"Sometimes"
A new Scrabble piece, set on a wooden board covered in vintage papers and framed with a mini-blind rod frames the scrabble tiles.
The quote:  'Sometimes I take baths because it is more difficult to drink wine in the shower"

 "Nibbling On Queue"
The title is a play on words, 24 fishing lures hung on a pool cue, with a cue ball added for interest.  The second image is of the piece in it's new home.

Thanks for stopping by.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think of these new pieces.  I will post more soon.

What's Your Point?

"What's Your Point?"

Where have all the pencils gone?
Electronic devices seem to be eliminating the need for pencils, or pens, or books or newspapers or phone booths, or so many other things that were once comfortable and familiar. . . . things keep a-changing'.

A colorful arrangement of a collection of vintage and newer leaded writing instruments neatly accommodated inside a simple wooden frame.

Eternity Is A Long Time. . . .

FRONT and BACK images
"Eternity Is A Long Time"
A couple of months ago I was invited to submit an art piece by Graton Gallery, in Graton, CA for their Cigar Box Show.  This was my entry.

There are many stories that could be told by this somewhat complex piece, but I think it's best to let the Viewer (you) decide where the story goes . . .

There is one thing I would like to bring to your attention, and that is this detail: The background image is from a magazine found at a coffee shop in San Francisco. The words read:
PRAISE THE LOWERED
The rest of the story is up to you!
Happy New Year Everybody!
