"Home - A Soft Place To Land" ●
I came a cross this sweet, bird house at an estate sale a few months ago during our winter months. I remember, it was rainy and gloomy outside, and there was not much going on in terms of garage sales.
When I saw the plain white bird house, I thought of Spring, and birds and things that are green . . . and I longed for the rainy season to pass. I thought, as soon as Spring time came, I would want to work on something Spring'ish.
To start this piece, I covered the outside of the bird house with bird images from a 'bird' encyclopedia. To embellish, I added a door plate, a vintage skeleton key, a brass plaque from Meadowood, Napa Valley, and bicycle chain. A silvery seagull at the very top is mobile. Oh, yes, I almost forgot to mention the copper flashing I used on the roof.
The piece is ready to be wall hung or placed on a shelf.
That is beautiful. I almost thought it was your work. Who ever made this piece really did a great job. Make one Rebeca. You wouldn't be copying. Inspiration won you over and you made one too. Deletei have been cutting out birds (and fish) out of throw away books for as long as i can remember. i love using them in collage work, i think it's the 'single' eye that seems to look right at the viewer that i like.
Aaaw, love the sentiment of a soft landing and the bird cage is lovely... the use of the bike chain is inspired!!

DeleteI, too, love using bicycle chain. i found a new source for bike chain pieces, my local repair shop, they have tons in their recycle bin. the only problem is cleaning them of all the 'grease'. . .
What a great piece.....I love the idea of the key in the key hole as the perch for the bird....fabulous:)

ReplyDeleteYou asked what I meant by "scan." My camera is the world's worst, so anytime I can lay something on my scanner, I will "scan" it. When that is not possible, I photograph it, and the results are far from ideal. Thanks for asking.
