"Dragon Ace"
I love working with vintage measuring tools. I love the inevitable paint drips and chips they acquire. I love the endurance they’ve shown, the patina they now posses. These yardsticks, rulers and skirt makers have all had a long hard-working life . . . and now they have a new career as art. A red-eyed Dragon named 'ACE' sits on the side, holding a golden tassel.
A wooden frame holds vintage rulers, yardsticks and skirt markers. The dragon was formally an incense burner. The tassel, has been cut down to size, was from someone's 1987 graduation mortarboard.
When I first saw the thumbnail of this piece on my sidebar, I thought it was a fancy guillotine cutter. What a surprise I got when I saw it in a larger size. I am so impressed with all the yard sticks you used in this project. I think I've had two of them in my life. You find the best and most unusual pieces, especially the skirt markers. Very clever.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth - Thank you for stopping by. yes i have a ton of yardsticks! (and rulers and folding rulers, and measuring tapes), i just love them.
Deletel'année du dragon..ou du crocodile? :)))
ReplyDeleteHA ! Un crocodile ?
DeletePas, non, non, je pense que c'est un dragon. (j'espère)
merci Elfi, quelle bonne idée. je n'avais pas pensé à celui.
année du dragon, très bon!
This is a wonderful piece! I, too, collect yardsticks and have used them often. I have many pieces, too, given me by another artist. Sometimes I just run through my box for the pure pleasure of it. Good job, Rebeca!
ReplyDeletethanks jackie!
Deletejust today i found 2 more at my local garage/yard sales. it's funny but, if it seems like if i focus on one thing before i go to the flea or to g-sales, that's what i find...
