"Laugh Lines"
"Laugh Lines"●
Just finished this piece last week. In a sewing machine drawer, covered on the inside with hand made red paper, I affixed a laughing clown head thinking the word 'LAUGH' in children's wood blocks.
A small crank music box plays the tune "Alouette"- a popular French Canadian children's song about plucking the feathers off a small bird.
The outside is covered in tissues and words to laugh by. On the back I attached a mirror and placed 3 wooden coasters on top to add depth and interest.
I apologize for the photos, it is a difficult piece to photograph. If you click on an image you can enlarge it enough to take a closer look

ReplyDeleteOH I AM AFRAID OF CLOWNS... THEY TOTALLY CREEP ME OUT... that said i have a small collection of especially icky ones,,, along with my demented santa collection....my condition is called COULRAPHOBIA.... for my 60th my sister had a clown party... it was hilarious and hideous....
ReplyDeleteClowns do that to me as well but in this case the laugh blocks are a great touch and mellow out the clown! What are the laugh line on the side Rebeca?
ReplyDeleteAlan
Peggy, Diane thanks for stopping by, and for your kind words.
ReplyDeletedeb - I know you think clowns are creepy . . . i had an uncle who was a clown in the Barnum and Baily circus years ago. He was pretty nice. . .
Alan, the words are written on the side of the box, and they are a variety of words like 'be happy', 'create yourself', 'giggle', etc, . . . hopefully to make you smile!
i just found a CD from the Firesign Theater called "FIGHTING CLOWNS"... i will try to listen.... and i have some more doll heads for you...
ReplyDeleteI am working on a clown piece too! Everyone I know hates them. I was a "missionary clown" in Mexico one spring break during college.
ReplyDeleteI love your work Rebeca!
